Her Name was Alice Rose

hey y'all,

happy mother's day to all you moms out there ... and you know who you are!

just wanted to share a few pics of my mom, alice rose. i could tell you so many stories of how she made me laugh, cry and sigh over the years ... but i'd be here all day. and none of us wants that, do we?

mainly, i wanted y'all to know that alice rose was a sweet, affectionate lady, who loved and adored her children. we lost her the week after mother's day, 1993. i will always miss her ... but i feel her presence every second of every day, guiding me in this forever journey of motherhood.

also, i want to share some quotes that i've read recently, about mothers ... some sentimental, some funny, some painful. but isn't that the reality of motherhood, after all?

love and hugs,

terry lee (mother of three wonderful, intelligent, funny, beautiful people: matthew, tara and alan)

"a mother is a mother still, the holiest thing alive." ~~samuel taylor coleridge

"a mother's arms are more comforting than anyone else's." ~~diana, princess of wales

“a mother's love is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking, it never fails or falters, even though the heart is breaking.” ~~helen rice

"come mothers and fathers throughout the land, and don't criticize what you can't understand.” ~~bob dylan

"mothers are all slightly insane.” ~~j.d. salinger

"i remember when I was a kid I used to come home from sunday school and my mother would get drunk and try to make pancakes.” ~~george carlin

"my mother didn't try to stab my father until I was six, but she must have shown signs of oddness before that." ~~alan alda

in loving memory of the sweetest rose i know ... my mom, alice rose (1937-1993)

women know
the way to rear up children (to be just)
they know a simple, merry, tender knack
of tying sashes, fitting baby-shoes
and stringing pretty words that make no sense.

Terry Lee, what a beautiful post. I'm fortunate enough to have mine with me. You have wonderful memories and that is important. Those who we loved live forever in our thoughts and memories. Blessings to you today and always, Marta.

What a beautiful post.
I lost my mother in 1996, and I agree-
she is with me always.

I just now read this blog...but I wanted to say Happy Mother's Day to you once again...I appreciate you so much. I remember how sweet and loving Mama was to us children, always giving us "sugar" and spoiling us with her attention and heartfelt kindness...the little things I remember, like giving us sherbert and chilled skittles in glass saucers and so much adoration and love to last a lifetime.

And you learned those same beautiful qualities from her, as you raised us with gentleness, and showered us with your sweet ways and unconditional love...thank you always...love you Mom...:-)(I am but a rose petal from your bouquet of beauty...)

I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day! I love the picture of your mama in braids-so cute. I still think Tara resembles your mom in the 3rd picture.Mallory's middle name is Rose too! Have a wonderful week!

It's a sweet post, but also a bit painful. Guess it will always be that way.

Thanks for a great tribute. Love the pictures, especially the one of the three of us in our flannel gowns. I actually remember when that was taken. Not the actual date, but the occasion.

Love you,
Big Sis
